CAN I REALLY PUT UP WITH ANOTHER DAY OF THIS? LAST NIGHT WAS BAD ENOUGH.
By John Currell, Divisional Manager at Interpro
"It was 5:30pm. I’d had one of those days that sometimes feels like the norm in Recruitment. You know the sort; working my backside off, getting loads of rejection and to be frank, I was exhausted. I needed to switch off and start fresh tomorrow...
But, there he was...He’s looking at me again, then looking at his watch”. I know what it means, if I walk out now then I am going to get it in the neck. Maybe it’s a snide comment as I walk out, maybe he will give me grief tomorrow. I don’t know if Recruitment is for me after all. What happened to “every day is different”, and where’s this £100,000 a year OTE they told me about. Sold the dream, hook, line and sinker." An extract taken from John Currell's post 'I’m a Recruiter, Get Me Out of Here...'
“Great post John, I've met many Recruiters that fit that mould in my time at Voyager. It seems a change of environment is what many may need in today’s market? At Voyager we've seen a huge influx of Recruiter start-ups recently, mainly I'm guessing because they have the contacts, and can do it for themselves. If their employer isn't giving them a reason to stay, and they have confidence in their abilities they can get up and running for virtually nothing, and suppliers like Voyager now offer more help and advice than ever before – start-ups are our future revenues! What I do see, however, is that lots of Recruiters are stuck in a rut, trying nothing new, but expecting a better result – “LinkedIn doesn't work, job-boards don't work, telesales doesn't work.” The fact is that Recruitment does work, it’s just harder than is once was..but then Recruitment never was easy was it?
