Fascinating read about unconscious bias when it comes to recruitment and people development.
We are all guilty of this since the majority of our decision making is emotion based. But how do you overcome unconscious bias? Recognising where it comes into play, having a diverse team so that each corner is championed? Good suggestions. Couple this with our recruitment testing which is a great tool for looking transferable skills and takes away the risk of bias.
We believe that everyone, regardless of age, gender, background, ethnicity should have the right to a fair recruitment process.
I spoke to an investment banker who believed that he was far too clever to have unconscious biases. His argument was that he was so intelligent, everything passed through his conscious mind in order to get into his unconscious mind. He therefore believed it was impossible for him to have any unconscious biases at all, and moreover that his unconscious was largely redundant.
